    MAC Marilyn Monroe Collection

    —

It’s amazing how one woman has come to signify glamor and sexiness for not just one but several generations of women in the 20th-21st Centuries.

She has two gorgeous looks that she works; one the sultry scarlet-lipped siren with the platinum blonde locks and sleepy eyes. The other, the fresh-faced, I-rolled-out-of-bed-looking-gorgeous kitten look with soft lips, loose waves, and Bambi-eyes.

MAC’s collection focuses emphasizing the lash line (liners, lashes, mascara instead of strong shadows), natural-looking skin, and a range of strong lip colors.

I like the concept if you’re a makeup collector (the packaging is beautiful), and this is a good reference collection if you want to start doing classic glamorous makeup but don’t have a clear idea where to start and what products to buy. Otherwise, you might not find anything that unique about the shades and products on offer since the drugstores are filled to the brim with cheaper alternatives of these classic colors.

MAC Marilyn Monroe collection will be available worldwide around October 2012.

    love it

Make Up For Ever Black Tango Collection for Fall 2012: Worth the purchase?

    —

    Has anyone tried this yet?

I’m still looking at the beautiful visuals, and haven’t popped by my Sephora yet. (It wasn’t in the past weekend.)

Here’s why you might want to go take a look at it:

    1. The packaging is gorgeous. If you are a collector, the red and black lace case for the Aqua Creams is beautiful.
    2. 4 dark aqua cream shades. If you love smoky eye looks, here are 4 perfect smoky colorful shades to jazz things up without getting too bright and pastel.

Reasons you might not like it:

    1. Make Up For Ever is more expensive than most brands available. The quality is good; don’t get me wrong. But does it warrant the price compared to other artist brands out there? I’m not 100% convinced.
    2. Aqua creams work beautifully as bases and the colors and textures are great as far as gel/cream shadows go, but in the end, it’s still a cream shadow. On its own, it will look kinda patchy and uneven when you try to build up more intensity, and I find these better as bases. (In which case, they are very expensive compared to other brands.

    Alternatives:

    1. MAC Paint Pots - slightly less easy to blend, but cheaper and more accessible
    2. Estee Lauder Cream Shadows - similar quality and price
    3. Benefit Creaseless Creme Shadows - slightly better quality and slightly better price
    4. Chanel Illusion D’ombre - best and smoothest quality I’ve found currently, but also slightly more expensive. (I’ll need to do a calculation, but for the amount of product you get, the Chanel might be equal or cheaper. I’ll double-check.)

P.S. On the aside, I really love the look they did. Smoky purple-black eyes with dark rose-red lips.

i love this i would were it all the time

    Lush Green: “Ombre” Glitter Liner

    —

So little work, so much impact.

The best kinda makeup tutorial, no?

Rainbow liners are quite popular, but I haven’t found them to be all that wearable for daily life. Now, this is a rather coordinated and low-key way to add some bling to your look and still get long-lasting drama.

    You’ll need:

    Black pencil

    • Colored pencil (I used a deep teal green from Bourjois 87 Vert Eclatant)
    • A medium sage green shadow (L’oreal Infallible Shadow in Permanent Kaki)
    • Liner sealant (long-lasting) or eye drops (less durable); MAC Fix+ would work like the eye drops
    • A deeper green micro-glitter (get super-fine ones from Coastal Scents, TKB Trading, and other makeup stores)
    • Black mascara or false lashes
    —

Step 1: Definition. I used black pencil to just darken the upper lash line. I applied it very close to the roots from the top, and then ran the pencil along the water line (below the lashes) as well.

    —

Step 2: Now with your colored pencil (you can use gel liner, liquid liner, anything you want), you want to lay down the basic shape and base color of the line. Obviously, your liner should more or less correspond to the glitter and shadow color you are using.

I applied it out along the upper lash line, thick and getting thicker at the outer corners, until I pull it up and out in a short wing. If you want maximum drama, you can draw the line REALLY far out.

    —

Step 3: Along the inner half of the colored liner, you want to use a flat brush to carefully pat on a coat of the softer green shadow. You want the drama to be on the outer halves, so the shade on the inside should be lighter or softer.

    —

Step 4: Now along the outer half of the lids, I dampen a flat brush in eyeliner sealant (Ben Nye, Mehron, etc all have affordable versions), coat the damp brush with glitter, and then press everything lightly along the outer half of the pencil. Just go over a few times until you build up a nice coat of sparkle.

The pencil below will stop things from looking patchy or uneven, so you don’t need to spend a whole lot of time on this.

     —

Step 5: Everything should dry and set very quickly, and then you can curl lashes and apply mascara to finish the look. If there’s any glitter fallout or smudging on the other portions of your skin, simply clean up with a Q-tip.

Now you get an interesting effect where your pale metallic green liner morphs into a deeper glitter liner!

    love it
